The host of American Idol is taking a bit of the spotlight on New Year's Eve and MSNBC reports that he's hoping to get a kiss at the stroke of midnight from pop superstar Christina Aguilera. The singer of "Ain't No Other Man" is performing on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2007 and Ryan Seacrest hopes to repeat a lucky kiss he got from Mariah Carey last year with Christina Aguilera this year. According to the Associated Press, other performers on the ABC show include Rascal Flatts and the stars of Broadway's Jersey Boys. Ryan Seacrest told the AP Radio News, "Last year I got lucky with Mariah (Carey), so hopefully at that moment she's right there."


Dick Clark, who hosted the New Year's Rockin' Eve show for years suffered a stroke two years ago, but he was back on TV last year, co-hosting with Seacrest, who handled most of the broadcast. Clark has been doing the annual tradition since 1972.


Ryan Seacrest considers it an honor to be co-hosting the special with Clark, telling the AP, "When I was a kid, we would have a baby sitter and we'd have a pizza, you know, apple cider in a champagne flute, and we'd actually watch Dick Clark on television in Atlanta."


Will Simon Cowell, Seacrest's nemesis on American Idol, watch the show? "He won't even turn it on because he can't stand to watch anything where he's not featured. It's true. So last year, he went to an island where they didn't get American television or cable, and I would imagine he's probably doing the same thing."


In other New Year's news, Carson Daly, long considered a rival of Ryan Seacrest's due to their similar age and demographic appeal, will also host a New Year's Eve special on NBC. He told the LA Times in an interview, "Dick Clark is a huge inspiration for the huge success he's achieved. But that's where I stop. The world is changing. I'm young; I have my own thoughts as a producer. I'm not trying to keep his tradition. I'm trying to do my own."


Daly's show will feature Panic! At the Disco and OK Go. No word on if he expects a kiss from any of his guests. Daly will focus on the party in Times Square, telling the Times, "There's this huge event happening that night. Why take eyeballs away from that?"


American Idol returns to Fox on January 16th.
